I Spy with my Five Eyes: Woken Promises: Episode 34

As tensions between the West and China continue to escalate, the average Canadian citizen must adjust their understanding to match the facts. Despite this, many Canadians still possess a child-like naivete surrounding the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its intentions. They either believe eventually the CCP must succumb to the values of other liberal democracies, or that the rise of a Chinese middle class will force that to happen. That argument was bandied about some 50 years ago, and it may be time to abandon altogether, like Canada's widespread naivete. Jonathan Manthorpe's incredible "Claws of the Panda" (2019) matches up with the impetus for a dichotomy of change or risk serious deterioration of a relationship well over a century old.
